Self-service laundry in La Conce, Madrid.

  1. Wash.

    11 and 14 kilo washers, detergent and softener included. Half an hour, and you pay by card or with one-euro coins.

  2. Dry.

    Big dryers — up to 330 litres, room for the duvet and the blankets. Thirty or forty-five minutes, depending on the cycle.

  3. Stay a while.

    Sit on the sofa, step out for a coffee or stay and chat. Grab a book from the shelf or bring one of your favourites. The half hour takes care of itself.

The fruit shop is right next door, with cafés, bars and places to eat a step away. Inside: a reading corner, plants and water for your dog. Doing laundry can be a pause, not a chore.
